Grab Bag vol. 19

Things I found interesting lately, what I’ve been up to, and whatever else comes to mind.

If you’ve got nothing good to say, don’t say anything! Or, why I haven’t posted in nearly three months. But it’s not all bad! Here are some tidbits from the summer:

  1. I spent more time than I ever have running in the high country this year. It’s been some good, a lot of bad, but all treasured. The flowers were not as vibrant, the grass a bit browner, the heat more oppressive than it should be at 11,000 ft, but the mountains are still here. They will be here long after we’ve burned ourselves up into oblivion.

  2. I love this and I love that so many people in my life would be super excited about a random bird I saw. And the advice is solid:

    “if you want to foster closer relationships, whether they be platonic or romantic, focus less on the big moments and become more excited about the little ones.”

  3. We have a new kitten! Our resident cat is still pretty unhappy about it, but she was on the streets and needed a home, so Resident Cat will need to get used to it. When we first took her in, she would hiss if we approached her, and now she runs up for scritches. What a reward (and wouldn’t have happened without the dedication of Cat Dad Kit)

  4. I had my first experience getting an iron infusion, since my anemia returned. I’m still working on figuring out why, but in the meantime we’re trying to resolve the crummy feelings with Science. Apparently, it’s possible to have a bad allergic reaction to iron infusions, but thankfully I did not. I also didn’t really learn about this until afterwards, so I didn’t have an opportunity to stress about it. This reminds me that sometimes it’s better not to know. I can’t say I feel like a brand new person yet, but maybe my next post will be more enthusiastic.

  5. We also have a new espresso machine! This is much less exciting, significant, or interesting than the kitten. Our fancy one broke for the second time, so we replaced it with a lower cost, simpler option. Honestly, works great. I haven’t figured out the steam wand yet, so my latte art has been even more subpar than usual, but I’ll get there. Kit is excited because he can “hack it”.

Hopefully more. Hopefully soon. In the meantime, tell me about the cool bird you saw.
